Ephesians 4:11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;
Ephesians 4:12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:Evangelism: Zealous preaching and advocacy of the gospel.
Evangelism is defined as the preaching or promulgation of the gospel; When the bible speaks of “The Work Of An Evangelist” scripture is referring to the zeal, purpose or activity of a preacher of the gospel.
To evangelize means to proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ.
There are those desiring to change their lives, desperate to fill a void, crying out for help and answers, and the Gospel is their only solution.Yet they will not know that help exists unless we teach them. This is where “The Work Of An Evangelist” comes in. An evangelist is an individual that is committed to spreading the good news to every man woman boy or girl. It is the sincere desire of the evangelist that after the teaching of the gospel someone will make a conscious decision to make Jesus their choice.
In the book of Matthew 28: 19-20, Jesus is giving the Great Commission to the eleven apostles. He compels them to “Go therefore and teach all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things I have commanded you.”Jesus is saying these same words to us today. We are also under this obligation,we have been afforded the same task to teach others.
Paul says in Romans 1:14 “I am the debtor to the Greeks and to the Barbarians both to the wise and to the unwise. In like manner we are debtors to every non-Christian, because we have the good news that can save their soul. This places us under obligation to save the lost at any cost. Someone loved us enough to teach us the gospel truth. Shouldn’t we do the same for someone else?
1 Peter 4:18 proposes a question.”What shall be the end of those who do not obey the gospel?” The answer is eternal damnation.
The Lord doesn’t want anyone to be lost. 2 Peter 3:9 states, “The Lord is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all, should come to repentance. They can only come to repentance once they are properly taught.
Teaching the lost is the work the Lord has commanded each of us to do. Successful evangelism is accomplished one person at a time. When we teach the lost we cause heaven to rejoice. The bible says that angels in heaven rejoice when one sinner comes to repentance. The joy that stems from teaching an individual the gospel and seeing them obey it is beyond description. As spirit filled believers,we have a charge to keep, and a God to glorify. So teach the word, be instant in season and out of season.That single mother at the bus stop deserves to know the way.That old mother crossing the street alone deserves to know the way. That young man struggling with drug addiction deserves to know the way. Jesus Said that, “I am the way the truth and the light no man cometh to the father but by me.” So Go Tell It!
